Optics Alignment Engineer
Location: Brixham, United Kingdom
We are looking for a hands-on and experienced (5+ years) Optics Engineer to provide the optical knowledge for the development of packaging for future generations of high-speed telecommunications bi-directional fibre optic modules.
As Optics Alignment Engineer, you develop effective optical solutions for manipulation of light between the PIC and customer connector for current and future generations of high-speed optical modules. Help clarify what ‘effective’ means and keep that definition live as technology develops.

As Optics Alignment Engineer, you will:
- Develop the optical design and manufacturing techniques that manipulates light appropriate for the interface between our cutting-edge PIC and the outside world
- Interface with the PIC team for the most effective solutions and future developments
- Interface with the process, mechanical and equipment engineers for smooth prototyping and volume manufacturing
- Interface with Operations team for effective launch and support of manufacturing
- New process development for NPI facilitation, ramping and manufacturing Cost Reduction
- Documentation development appropriate for the product lifecycle stage
- Safe working practices
- PFMEA and Root cause analysis
- Data analysis
- Provide support to cost reductions and aggressive product ramps
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
We are searching for a candidate that has a deep technical understanding of optical properties and optical materials. In the past, you’ve demonstrated the ability to manage projects from definition to successful conclusion. You have high competence in modeling the behaviour of light appropriate for telecom applications through free space. Data handling is in your blood, so is multi-format and multi/level communications.
You have a broad knowledge of and experience in the photonics industry and with production metrics, root-cause analyses and reliability expectations.
Furthermore, you have worked in both an NPI as a production environment before and are familiar with working in cross-functional and multi-discipline teams. Flexibility is key in this position and so is the ability to make good decisions based on incomplete information under time pressure. You have general knowledge of business systems and Funded Program management.
Finally, you demonstrated the ability to work in cross-functional and multi-disciplinary teams and proven yourself to be very flexible.
